Pastor promotes bigotry and child abuse!

Reverend Sean Harris, the senior pastor at Berean Baptist Church in Fayetteville, North Carolina, tells parents to physically assault young children who may appear gay or effeminate. Then gives special dispensation for the assault.

TRANSCRIPT:
"So your little son starts to act a little girlish when he is four years old and instead of squashing that like a cockroach and saying, "Man up, son, get that dress off you and get outside and dig a ditch, because that is what boys do," you get out the camera and you start taking pictures of Johnny acting like a female and then you upload it to YouTube and everybody laughs about it and the next thing you know, this dude, this kid is acting out childhood fantasies that should have been squashed.
Can I make it any clearer? Dads, the second you see your son dropping the limp wrist, you walk over there and crack that wrist. Man up. Give him a good punch. Ok? You are not going to act like that. You were made by God to be a male and you are going to be a male. And when your daughter starts acting to Butch you reign her in. And you say, "Oh, no, sweetheart. You can play sports. Play them to the glory of God. But sometimes you are going to act like a girl and walk like a girl and talk like a girl and smell like a girl and that means you are going to be beautiful. You are going to be attractive. You are going to dress yourself up."You say, "Can I take charge like that as a parent?"Yeah, you can. You are authorized. I just gave you a special dispensation this morning to do that."

Now, to be fair, this asshole has issued a "retraction" and a half-assed "apology", but it is completely clear that this man is violently anti-LGBT who used the bible to justify his bigotry and hatred.

No, it has nothing to do with the election of your NC constitution. It has to do with your complete intolerance and inability to understand that people are BORN that way. They don't choose to be LGBT. We [the public at large] are sick and tired of bigots like you telling others that they must conform to what your bronze age book tells them they should be.

There is a petition to get his asshole bigot to resign. Please sign it and promote it!  Tell them what you think on Twitter! Facebook! and Youtube!

I will make a prediction though. I have noticed the "sins" that preachers preach most vehemently against are the things they struggle with the most. I suspect this preacher will be in the head lines again soon... under arrest for lewd acts in public.

Peter Popoff miracle requires witchcraft??

I got a letter from Christian evangelist Peter Popoff today.

It reminds me of the "bloody Mary" chant pre-teens would do in the bathroom to scare themselves.

Of course, there is a catch!

I truly have no choice!!!

Really?

Steve Sanchez claims I threatened his church??

Steve Sanchez says:
April 30, 2012 at 2:54 pm
Actually, he threatened my church’s tax exempt status when we promoted the 180 movie several months ago.

This is a lie. I didn't threaten his church, I just informed him that he were putting his church's tax exempt status at risk due to some of the content in the video can be viewed as campaign intervention.

I wrote:

Steve,

You might want to have your tax lawyer look at the video and then research the following words: "Political Intervention".

By promoting this movie, you are risking your church's 170.b.1.A.i tax status.

This is not Issue Advocacy, but Political Campaign Intervention in an election year.

Ray makes this Political Campaign Intervention by telling people not to vote for candidates who support choice.

Steve replied the next day:

Thanks Jim!

Yours ever heartily,

Pastor Steve

Steve the liar and banner

Steve Sanchez says he has to ban a few people, including me.

Fine. Then I will reply to him here.

I completely wiped all mention of one particular unbeliever and all his comments because of his persistent surliness.
That would be me. Wow. To resort to the drastic measure of deleting ALL of my replies to him? Talk about a blatant lie right there. That is the lie of omission.

Also, when there is a constant refrain that I’m lying, I will delete it. I don’t lie.

Really? You don't lie? I think I just showed that as untrue.

I owe you no apology. On the contrary, wipeing out all my posts is unforgivable for someone who supposedly loves free speech and his religious first amendment rights.

Your hypocrisy knows no bounds.

I have seen your supporters defame and lie about me and other atheists here. Other "Christians" here engage in such skulduggery, permitted by you, that proved to me that either 1) you are no "true" Christian or 2) you believe that such immoral acts, done in the name of your God, are totally forgivable and the ends of saving sinners justifies the immoral and dishonest means.

The way I see it, you and several of your supporters owe us apologies. Not vice versa.

If you disagree then come to smrt where we only censor spammers and not those who merely disagree.

Place your bets!!!

I predict that Todd (Ray Comfort and Kirk Cameron's lackey) will change his anti-mormon tune in  a few months and will become one of Mitt Romney's biggest cheer leaders!

Who all is in?

Church members may face charges in fake kidnapping of teen members?

Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church in Lower Swatara Township, Pa may be facing charges of kidnapping as well as other charges.
In an attempt to teach teen members of what other countries do to Christians, church leaders burst into homes at gun point (unloaded and carried by an off duty police officer), blindfolded and forced teens into a van, and then taken to the pastors home where they were told everything was fake.
The area's abc 27 news station reported:
Lower Swatara Township police began their own investigation when the mother of a 14-year-old girl complained that her daughter, a guest of a youth group member, had her legs bruised during the event.
The teen told abc27 News she thought she was going to die when the men burst into the room, put pillow cases over some of the people's heads and led them into a van.
"They pulled my chair out from underneath me and then they told me to get on the ground," she said. "I was the first person to go into the van. I had my hands behind my back they said 'just do as I say and you won't be hurt'."
The teens were taken to the pastor's house, where it appeared he was being assaulted. Eventually, she said the adults in charge revealed it was a staged event.

This is unreal and a recipe for disaster. If this had happened in my house or at a neighbor's / friend's with no knowledge of what was actually happening, it easily could have become a tragedy. I would have defended these kids with lethal force if need be. I know many others who would do the same.
Shockingly, it seems parents were also not informed of the fake raids either. The church said it would continue such actions in the future, but would inform parents from now on.. WTF?

One comment on the abc site said:
"After reading most of these comments I can clearly see why this church is teaching about persecution of Christians. Sounds to me like one spoiled mommy and her spoiled brat need a wake up call. Its not all about their dainty little feelings. Its about reality. When this happens to them in real life who will they call on to help them? "oh GOD please help me" will be the first words out of their mouth."

All one has to do is peruse through the postings at some fundamentalist's message boards like Rapture Ready to see the paranoid mindset of many fundamentalists, but this sort of behavior is way out of line.

If what we have been told is accurate, I hope this church's leaders get nice long prison terms and the church has the shit sued out of it.
